A Build in Bali - Why It Mattered to Us
Helping build homes for those in need has been something I’ve wanted to do through this business for a long time.
In my business, I spend a lot of time thinking about your home – how to help you plan, stay organised, and find calm and joy during your build. But the truth is, for many people around the world, having a safe place to call home isn’t guaranteed.
So when we already had a family trip to Bali booked for July, I reached out to a charity I’d been following called Rescue 2000 to see if we could support a build while we were there. To our surprise, they told us a home could be completed in just four weeks – meaning we could meet the family and see the home while we were over in Bali!
Meeting The Family ❤️
The family we helped support live just outside Amed (Eastern Bali), at the base of Mount Agung.
After the volcano last erupted in 2017, many people moved away. Those who stayed now live spread out – not in villages but in isolated homes, deep in the bush. There’s no real access to infrastructure, and very little community connection.
We’ve done charity work before, but I wasn’t expecting this level of isolation.
It made me think about how important community is – not just for practical help, but for inspiration, accountability, and encouragement. Life was not meant to be lived alone.
The Build
The home itself cost around $6,500 AUD. It was simple, strong, and clean, and it gave the family something they hadn’t had before, a proper roof over their heads and space to raise their kids safely.
We brought our 13 year old son with us, and he got to meet the family’s children including twins that were the same age as him. Watching them connect was a moment that I won't forget.
A Chat That Shifted My Focus
While we were there, I had the chance to chat with Cris from Rescue 2000, who founded the charity. We talked about what actually helps families long term. He was saying how the home lifts the standard of living – but if we want to break cycles of poverty, we have to invest in kids, especially through education.
That’s something I’ll carry forward as we think about how our business can continue to give back.
Who We Partnered With
Rescue 2000
A non-profit based in Bali, focused on building homes, providing clean water, and delivering food aid. They work closely with local builders and families, and their turnaround times are incredibly fast.
Rice for Bali
A grassroots organisation focused on food security, education, and long-term community care. They buy rice from local farmers and deliver it directly to families in need, while also supporting kids through school programs.
